Wednesday, August 13

On Saturday, August 16, 2008 we have our full moon. In truth the full moon rises at sundown today (full for a few days before and after the "day" it's full)...

The August full moon is often called the Sturgeon Moon in North America. The Sturgeon Moon harks back to the bygone centuries when this large fish roamed plentifully in the Great Lakes and Hudson Bay. The August full moon is also known as the Green Corn Moon or the Grain Moon. The August full moon always resides in front of the constellation Aquarius the Water Bearer or Capricornus the Sea-goat. In 2008, the full moon is in Capricornus, near the star Deneb Algedi, which depicts the Sea-goat’s tail. For general reference, we can say the moon is full all night tonight. Astronomically speaking, the moon is full at the instant that it’s most directly opposite the sun. By this definition of full moon, the moon turns full at 9:16 p.m. Universal Time today. Universal Time refers to the standard clock time at the prime meridian of 0 degrees longitude. In North America, the full moon happens during the daylight hours today, when it’s still beneath our horizon. However, in eastern South America, most of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, the moon is precisely full during the nighttime hours tonight. Sometime tonight in those parts of the world, the full moon will dip into the Earth’s dark shadow, causing a partial lunar eclipse. August’s full moon is often referred to as the Wyrt, Wort, Barley, Corn or Red moon. The energies around this moon are ones of abundance, agriculture and marriage. We are encouraged to begin harvesting and collecting any herbs that we will use over the next year, and storing them. Focus on helping yourself or someone else reap the benefits of hard work done. This Full Moon in Aquarius will help us to make better use of our creativity, enhance our creative ability and artistic skill, and enable us to improve our relationships. The energy of the August Moon boosts your interest in abundance, you may celebrate marriage or unions/ unity. Aquarius Full Moon Themes: breaking free of the status quo; the rebel in search of balance; sudden changes in frequency; illuminated grids; alliances beyond labels; the passion of visionary ideas; unexpected breakthroughs; becoming a global citizen; otherwordly knowledge.
