Just stumbled upon your blog by random link frenzy, but I can deeply relate to what you are going thru, think of me as the you from the future (1 year ago I had to have my dog put down with an ocean in between us) try to remember good moments of him as often as you can, and get a new pet as soon as you are ready, he wouldn't want to see you alone just as you didn't want to see him suffer.
I know what it is like to lose your feline familiar.
I of course cry for August every day, as its only been a few weeks and i still get sad for Mr. Ball ....... its so hard to lose not only your trusted friend but your child ........ so sorry for your loss :(
